Associate Director of Central Sterile Services manages a large,
multi-functional service area, ensuring efficiency, compliance with
standards, and effective relationships with all disciplines
involved in sterile processing. This role involves leadership,
staffing, performance improvement, budgeting, and compliance with
regulatory standards, with authority over hiring, evaluations, and
disciplinary actions.Responsibilities:
- Promote customer service within Central Sterile Services,
developing systems and behaviors focused on customer
satisfaction.
- Establish accountability systems for clinical, clerical, and
support staff to ensure timely and accurate service.
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with other
disciplines involved in service provision.
- Provide leadership by setting and evaluating the mission,
goals, and objectives of the department.
- Ensure departmental goals align with organizational standards
and mission.
- Lead all aspects of sterile services, demonstrating vision and
initiative.
- Stay informed about changes affecting the department and adapt
strategies accordingly.
- Model professional and ethical behavior, serving as a role
model for staff and customers.
- Analyze situations and make decisions that serve the best
interests of the department and organization.
- Develop and evaluate performance improvement plans, ensuring
interdepartmental collaboration.
- Manage information systems for data collection, analysis, and
dissemination to improve outcomes.
- Communicate policies and procedures effectively across the
department.
- Keep the organization informed about relevant issues impacting
the department.
- Recruit, retain, evaluate, and motivate staff; ensure
competency and ongoing development.
- Maintain knowledge of applicable laws, policies, and collective
bargaining agreements.
- Ensure appropriate staffing and foster employee participation
and empowerment.
- Manage budgets, resources, and emergency preparedness
plans.
- Collaborate with medical staff and other disciplines to ensure
quality clinical care.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines and maintain
current knowledge of healthcare policies.
- Model service excellence and organizational values, performing
other duties as assigned.Experience: Generally requires 7 to 10
years of related experience, including leadership roles.Education:
Bachelor's degree in a related field is strongly
preferred.Credentials:
- Valid Sterile Processing Technician Certification by CBSPD,
IAHCSMM, or other CSS-related certification is required.
- Incumbents hired before November 20, 2019, must obtain the
certification by December 31, 2021.Skills:
- Knowledge of business and management principles, strategic
planning, resource allocation, and leadership techniques.
- Skills in performance assessment, problem-solving, program
development, and goal setting.
- Ability to analyze and address various operational challenges
